Graham - Sylvia Jean Bailey Smith, 77, passed away Monday June 12th at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 22, 1940 in Alamance County to the late "O.T." Bailey and Elva McPherson Bailey and was the wife to Otis Thomas "O.T." Smith, Sr. for 58 ½ years who survives.
Sylvia retired from Alamance County Cooperative Extension after 31 years of service. She was a lifelong member at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and playing hand bells. Sylvia was the only woman president of the Alamance Region Antique Car Club of Burlington and volunteered her time at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
Survivors other than her husband, O.T. Smith include her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Kellie Smith; grandson, Landon Bailey Smith; brothers and sisters-in-law, Otis "O.T." and Jo Lane Bailey, Oscar and Joyce Bailey; brother-in-law, Floyd Smith and wife, Elsie; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church by Rev. Andy Wood with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
