GIBSONVILLE - Susan James Haithcock, 90, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home in Burlington on October 14, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe; daughters, Karen Leeb and husband Bill and Rebecca Lancaster and husband Mark; grandchildren, Laura Reynolds and husband Jeff, Ryan Leeb, Matthew Lancaster and wife Allison, and Rachel Lancaster and husband Milan Vegar and her great granddaughter, Emerson Reynolds.
Susan was born June 25, 1932 to the late Charles and Marion James and grew up in Salisbury, NC. She was preceded in death by her siblings, C.W., Josephine, and Phyllis James. During her life, she resided briefly in Pensacola, FL; Atlanta, GA; Fort Worth, TX; Winston-Salem, NC; and Bel Air, MD. The majority of her years were spent in her beloved Burlington, NC.
Susan was a homemaker, an extremely talented seamstress, and a volunteer for causes such as the American Red Cross, the Board of Elections, Meals on Wheels, and many other activities through Front Street Methodist Church. Her life’s greatest work was raising her two daughters (in whom she instilled her passion for bird watching) and spoiling her grandchildren with countless hours of loving attention (and Beanie Babies!).
The family would like to thank Susan’s extended family, church, and close friends for all of their care and support. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at https://www.parkinson.org/.
