Susan "Susie" Utberg Barnum, 75, left this world on Monday, March 26, 2018 after a brief stay
at Moses Cone Hospital.
Susie was raised in Pittsburg, PA but later moved to California, Nevada and Florida before moving to North Carolina in 1993. She had an elevated spirit and loved song and dance, along with reading and crossword puzzles, but her first love was horses and her second was dogs. At the age of 16 her parents bought her a horse and that was the beginning of a lifetime involvement with horses. Over the years, she trained horses and taught riding lessons to many young people. She always owned a horse or two and competed as a rider in various events. During her lifetime she acted as a mother to anyone who needed it. She provided housing or moral support to friends in need.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Burlington Assembly of God by Pastor Bryan Rainbow and Rev. Howard Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to SemperFiFund.org, Veterans JMHP Horsemanship Program for Veterans; Box 555193. Camp Pendleton, CA 92055 or to Shriner's Hospital for Children; Attn: Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
