Sue Thomas Drake

Sue Thomas Drake, 78, died on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Hospice Home after several years of declining health.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Ray Drake, Sr and parents, James Robert Thomas and Lois Virginia Moody of Burlington.

Sue is survived by daughter, Dana Drake Slaughter (Bruce) of Burlington; three sons, Charles Ray Drake, Jr (Ginger) of Greenville, NC, Thomas Kendall Drake (Sherri) of Farmville, NC and Matthew Todd Drake (Hope) of Burlington; seven loving grandchildren that she thought the world of, Drake Slaughter (Samantha), Anniston and Jillian Drake, Ty (Claire) and Peyton (Ashley) Drake, Danielle Drake and Sierra Jones (Dontay); two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Jones and Stetson Slaughter; sister Janie McCrickard (Mike) of Burlington and lifelong best friend Ruth McHone of Burlington.

Like many others of her generation Sue grew up working hard in the textile mills of Burlington, yet she discovered her passion in the medical field later in life. She graduated from Sandhills Community College in 1989 and soon became a Respiratory Therapist, RRT working and helping people in various hospitals throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mike Mitchener. Interment will follow at McCray Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 8, 2024 and other times at the home of Todd and Hope Drake.
