Steven Kent "Cooter" James, Sr., age 64, of Carlton Ave., passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Jesse Cabel James and the late Juanita Cooke James and was married for over 45 years to Mrs. Angelia Hall "Pete" James, who survives. He was the owner and operator of S&K Trucking, then was later employed with the City of Burlington and was a longtime member of Wicker St. Baptist Church. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR races and was a volunteer for Toys For Tots. Steve was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was an all around, very likeable man that never met a stranger. Steve is survived by his wife of the home; his daughter, April James Dunn of Burlington; his son, Steven Kent James, Jr. and his wife, Emily, of Gibsonville; two grandchildren, Carter James and T.J. Dunn; a sister, Barbara Carl Church of Graham; and a brother, Larry Yvonnie James of Burlington. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ricky Lewis. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence. The James family would like to extend a special thanks to their friends at the Hospice Home for the loving and compassionate care they provided to Mr. James and his family.
