Stephen T. Simpson

On Saturday, February 1, 2025, Stephen Simpson, youngest son of Haywood G. Simpson, Jr. (Nancy) and Elizabeth “Betty” W. Shook (Chuck) passed away peacefully at AuthoraCare Hospice Home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Stephen was born in Burlington on March 25, 1967. In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by his son, James “Jack” Simpson; sister, Elizabeth Morgan (Chris) of Burlington; brother, Hayes Simpson of Raleigh; and stepsisters, Lorimer Thornton (Tom) of Concord and Christie Janicello (Steve) of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty and sister, Susan Ratliff.

Stephen’s ability and love of golf resulted in accomplishments while in college at Louisburg and later winning numerous CGA events. He was most proud of winning the 1997 Alamance Country Club Championship.

After graduating from Williams High School in 1985, Stephen enrolled at Louisburg Junior College. Earning his degree there in 1987, he entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He loved the Tar Heels!

Stephen began his professional career by joining his father in the insurance agency in Burlington. From there he worked at Lincoln Financial Distributors in Greensboro, Allstate Financial in Charlotte, and AIG in Nashville. He earned professional designations in Chartered Life Underwriters: Insurance and Financial Advisor and in 2010 Chartered Financial Consultant.

The family wishes to thank AuthoraCare Hospice and all of the doctors and caregivers that looked after Stephen during his long hospitalization and follow up care. They would also like to give a special thank you to the many friends and relatives for the expressions of concern during Stephen’s illness.

The family will hold a private service.
