Stephen Brewer II

Stephen David Brewer, II, age 72, of Cooks Mill Road passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 29, 2011. He was born in Greensboro where he was adopted by Ernest and Bertha Brewer who lovingly raised him in Pittsboro. A rising senior at NC State he met and married his Meredith sweetheart, Patricia Brice of Sanford with whom he recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends. After college he then completed his service as Captain in the US Army and began his career in furniture manufacturing. His most favored position was 15 years of management for White Furniture Company of Mebane. Upon retirement he joined his wife and The Friends of Woodlawn board in devoting countless hours restoring the historic Woodlawn School located in Mebane. He was a beloved and devoted Christian husband, father and friend. Also, he felt a close attachment to his Haw River Christian Church family. Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Pat" Brice Brewer of the home; his children, Terri Beaird and her husband, Ray of Lorton, VA and Cindy Carter and her husband, Steve of Thousand Oaks, CA and Stephen Brewer and wife Christina of Charlotte, NC and a sister, Sarah Gattis of Wilson, NC. He was blessed with five grandchildren - Meghan, Mackenzie, Will, Madison and Stella. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Ernest and Bertha Russell Brewer. A service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Richard Myers. The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private burial service for family later in the afternoon at Buffalo-Jonesboro Cemetery in Sanford, NC. In lieu of flowers Steve wished his passing to be a time of recognizing those who helped him and so many others with memorials to The Childrens Home Society, 604 Meadow St., Greensboro, NC 27405, Duke Cancer Institute, Office of Development, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27125.
