Stanley Orr, 87, of Burlington, NC died peacefully at the AuthoraCare Hospice Home in Burlington on October 4, 2022.

Stan leaves behind Carol, his wife of 65 years; son Todd Orr (Melinda) of Durham, and daughters Stacy Morgan (Rick) of Eden Prairie, MN; and Alison Spare (Phil) of Denver, CO.  He also deeply loved and was proud of his eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Stan was born in Clayton County, Iowa on January 1, 1935 to the late Willard and Leona Orr and grew up in Dubuque, Iowa.  A multi-sport athlete, he was a member of the Dubuque Senior High School Athletic Hall of Fame.  The first person in his family to attend college, Stan graduated from Cornell University in 1957 where he played football and was a member of the Sigma Phi fraternity.

He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1962.  Stan worked more than 45 years in the hospitality industry across the country including roles as the General Manager of Firestone Country Club, the Denver Athletic Club and the Union League Club of Philadelphia.  He was named the 1997 Club Executive of the Year by the Club Management Association of America.

He was active in civic and volunteer organizations including Special Olympics, Rotary Club, and community assistance organizations.  Stan was a life long golfer, and when he could no longer play, he loved to watch golf on television.

Stan moved to the Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, NC in 2015 and developed many friendships.  He was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Gibsonville, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  In remembrance of Stan’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Twin Lakes Community (Employee Assistance Fund), 3701 Wade Coble Dr. Burlington, NC 27215.
