Stanley Herrington Melvin, 85 went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday July 27, 10:20 PM, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mrs. Betty Isley Melvin who survives, for 62 years. Stanley was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving on the European front in the 101st Airborne and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was retired from Greens Fuel Company, where he worked for 40 years. Stanley was born in Bladen County on January 30, 1922 to Charles H. Melvin and Annie Stanley Melvin, both deceased. Stan was a multi-talented and interesting man who loved to hunt, fish, propagate plants, paint and do woodwork. He was an avid beekeeper for years and always had a joke to share. He was also a member of the former Burlington Exchange Club and the Alamance County and North Carolina Beekeepers Associations. Survivors, other than his wife of the home, include several nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel United Methodist Church by Rev. Neal Salter. Visitation will immediately follow. A private burial was held at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, NC. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell for the tender care given Stanley during his last days. The family requests no flowers and no food.
