Spencer Williams

Burlington – Our dad, Spencer Graham Williams, died Friday, March 27, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital.  Dad was born in Hillsborough, NC on March 17, 1937 to the late Nan Williams Robertson.  He graduated from E.M. Holt School where he met the love of his life, Charlotte Shoffner and had been married for 62 years.

Spencer operated Williams Texaco for 20 years.  It was a local hangout where many friendships were forged.  In his early years, he loved loud and fast cars and sponsored several cars at local drag strips and short tracks.

Spencer was a longtime member of Low’s Lutheran Church.  He had a love for his church and especially loved singing in the choir.  He took serving on church council and committees very seriously.  After God and church, dad’s life was centered around his family.  He adored our mom and loved all of us kids, grandkids and great grandkids very deeply. His next love was gardening.  He loved his flowers, trees and shrubs and was constantly planting something.

Dad is survived by our mom, Charlotte; sons, Rodney Williams (Francis), Ricky Williams (Linda); daughter, Renee Hayes (Jerry); grandkids, Tyler (Allison), Blake, Kenzie, Kimberly (Brad), Elizabeth (Chris), Ricky Jr., Samuel and Sarah; great grandkids, Jacob and Izzy and brother, Don Williams.  He was preceded in death by his mom, Nan Robertson; stepdad, B.G. Robertson; brother, Gene Williams and great grandson, “CJ” McGuire.

A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00am, Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Low's Lutheran Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Low’s Lutheran Church, 2136 NC-61, Liberty, NC 27298.
