Burlington - Shirley Ann Waddell Hollar, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Brookdale Memory Care surrounded by her family. She was born in Alamance County on July 25, 1939 to the late Edmond Howard and Helen Nell Cybrynski Waddell and was the wife of 55 years to the late William Mack Hollar, Sr.
Shirley was a lifetime member of Westview Presbyterian Church and was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63. She enjoyed trips to the mountains, the beach and she loved to sing. Most of all, Shirley loved people and never met a stranger.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth Hollar and wife Phyllis Ruth Hollar; granddaughter, Carrie Lynn and husband Timothy Rudd; grandson, Brandon Hollar; great grandson, Cole Kenneth Phelps and a sister, Mary Jane Waddell Justice. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons, William Mack Hollar, Jr. and Joseph Edmond Hollar and a half-brother, Tommy Waddell.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sandra Hollar, Jayme Hackney, Jeri and Loranda for caring for Shirley while at her home and also to the nurses and staff at Brookdale Memory Care and Hospice for their ongoing care and love they showed during her illness.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Ken Nall with the entombment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
