Burlington-Shirley Faye Dawson Hartman, 83, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at her home. She was born on July 19, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Glenn Dawson and Flora Wyrick Dawson.
Shirley retired from the County of Riverside, CA and formerly was employed with Burlington Industries for many years.
What can be said of Shirley: Only good things. Her only fault was being too good! Growing up in Gibsonville, NC; she loved playing baseball with her siblings Doris, Anita, Ron & Don. She was a huge fan of the LA Dodgers & California Angels and went to many of their games in Los Angeles after moving to California. Early in her working life in NC her first job was working at a chicken farm where she cared for the little chicks. Some of the chicks were deformed and she would hide them so they wouldn't be killed! Later she became a housewife and mother and full time employee of Burlington Industries for many years. In 1969 she moved to California after a failed marriage and went to work for the County of Riverside in Data Processing until her retirement in the late 1980's when she came back to NC to help take care of her mother who was in failing health as she herself was struggling with Diabetes! For the most part, she lived a lonely life after her divorce in 1969 living alone most of her years and she deserved so much more! Shirley never complained and always put others ahead of herself which usually caused her own self neglect! Which is what I believe brings us here today. God Bless Shirley Faye Hartman! Lucky Am I to have been her son! D. W. Hartman, Jr.
She is survived by her son, David Walton Hartman, Jr. and his significant other, Renee Lewis and her children, Miranda Kotarba, Irene Kotarba and Matthew Kotarba; daughters, Shirley Jones and husband, Lee, Kittie Gilbert and Ruth Maduros; grandchildren, Glenn Hartman, Sara Hartman, David James, Gregory Maduros, Jessica Gilbert, John Gilbert, Jennie Lebron Young and Nicole Maduros Zimmerman;great grandsons, Maven LeBron , Stryder Gilbert and Tyson LeBron and her Dear friends, Edith Strickland and Edna Porterfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ronald and Donald Dawson and sisters, Anita Gentry and Doris Dawson.
