Shirley Jean York Ferguson, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Duke University Medical Center. She was born in Orange County on August 30, 1934 to the late John Clarence and Frances Jones York and was married for nearly 57 years to Danner Ferguson, Jr. of the home. Shirley worked many years for Western Electric, earning her college degree from Elon University during that time. She served as treasurer at Bethany United Methodist Church for 37 years and was the vice president of the Hospice League. Most importantly, Shirley was a very devoted wife, mother and sister who always put the needs of others before her own. Survivors include her husband; daughter Danette Anderson Randy of Graham; sons Craig Ferguson Rosa Basi of Laurinburg and Jay Ferguson Kay of Durham; grandchildren Lisa Hall Chris, Kimberly Anderson, Katherine Ferguson, Elizabeth Ferguson and Anna Ferguson; great grandchildren Alexis Hall, Abigail Hall, Isabel Hall and Kayla Engel; siblings Doris Harvey Fred, Wanda Horner Gary, and Ron York Wanda. She is preceded in death by her parents. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Alex Miles and Rev. Allan Poole with the burial to follow at Bethany United Methodist Church in Liberty. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home.
