Sharon Kirkman

Mrs. Sharon Smith Kirkman, 56 of Elon went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 28, 2012. She was born in London, KY to the late James Drew "J.D." Smith and Mary Burns Smith who survives. Sharon was the wife to Darrell Duane Kirkman for 35 years who survives. Sharon graduated as a Phi Theta Kappa from Sue Bennett/Union College of Barbourville, KY. For the past 18 years she was co-owner of Lamplight Loving Care Childcare Center of Burlington, NC and most recently as the administrator for the Department of Health and Human Services Department of Agriculture. She was a lifetime member of Faith Assembly of God of London, KY and a member of West Burlington Church of God for the last 16 years where she served as adult Sunday school teacher, women's ministry president, CE board chairperson as well as various other church ministries. Survivors other than her husband of the home and her mother of London, KY include daughter and son-in-law, Angela Kirkman and Paul E. Holt of East Bernstadt, KY; grandchildren, Hannah Marie Holt and Sarah Grace Holt, ten brothers and sisters, Lorene Miracle of Corbin, KY, Bonnie Fightmaster of Middletown, OH, Althene Fredricks and Rex of London, KY, James Smith of London, KY, Shirley Shepherd and James of London, KY, Velma Anderson of London, KY, Marvin and Peggy Smith of London, KY, Karen and Tom Bailey of London, KY, Bobby and Sheila Smith of Burlington, NC, Dan and Denise Smith of London, KY; sister-in-law, Dee Smith of London, KY; 28 nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; brother, Denver Smith, brothers-in-law, Ray Miracle, Wallace Fightmaster and Carl Anderson; and sister-in-law, Linda Smith. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 1, 2012 at West Burlington Church of God by Rev. Olin Tatum. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. Sharon will be carried to Bowling Funeral Home in London, KY for funeral service 1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with visitation starting at 11:00 AM and the burial will be in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens of Lily, KY.
