Gibsonville Savola Jones Hawkins, 94 of Gibsonville, left us on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the Hospice Home to join her husband, Rev. John L. Hawkins who passed away Feb 29, 1996. She was born in Gaston County on June 27, 1918 to the late John Franklin and Mary Cross Jones and was married to the late Rev. John L. Hawkins. Savola was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville on Piedmont Avenue. She formerly helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of Aging in Action. She was employed with Liberty Hosiery Mill and later retired from the Gaston County School System as a cafeteria worker. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Frances Ridge Curry of Gibsonville, Linda Hawkins Stanley David "Junior" of Snow Camp and son, Lloyd Hawkins of McLeansville; grandchildren, John Ridge Cindy of Mebane, Donna Ingle Robert of Graham, James Stanley of Snow Camp, Freddie Ridge of Gibsonville, Teresa Wicker Robbie of Oklahoma City, OK and Gena Sharpe William of Burlington; twelve great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; sisters, Aletha Jenkins, Ruby Crisp, Lily Wooten and brothers, Claude Jones and Wilbert Jones and a great grandchild, Aaron Ellis and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Young Hawkins. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Jim Upchurch with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at Lowe Funeral Home and at the home of her daughter, Frances' at 5915 NC 61North in Gibsonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to First Baptist Church of Gibsonville, 221 Piedmont Ave., Gibsonville, NC 27249.
