Sarah Simmons

Burlington-Sarah Boswell Simmons, age 83 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Hospice Home. She was born on February 5, 1931 in Alamance County to the late Edward "Edd" Levi Boswell and Annie Dula Beverly Boswell. She was the wife of the late Robert Elmond Simmons. Sarah was employed for many years with Dan River Mills and she later retied from Carolina Biological Supply. She was an active member and Deacon of First Christian United Church of Christ in Burlington. During the 1960's she served as a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 54, Tar Heel Council at Edgewood United Church of Christ in Burlington. Sarah delighted at least three generations of children as the Halloween attraction of her neighborhood. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and she loved to share her passions of painting, gardening, cooking and sewing with family and friends. Sarah is survived by her daughters, Nancey Gean Simmons of Burlington and Darlene Simmons Watson and husband Bob of Elon and a son, Ronald Elmond Simmons of Burlington; grandson, Travis Lee Simmons of Graham and a granddaughter, Paige Lowe Simmons of Haw River. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Edna Garrison, Marvin Boswell, Betty Lea Jeffreys, Sonny and Bill Boswell. The family would like to thank Sarah's many relatives, friends, church family members, neighbors and her medical staff for their outpouring of love and support during her illness. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark H. Pickett and the burial will follow at Stony Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home. The family request that the "YaYa" Sisters and the A-O Class of 1950 sit together as honorary pallbearers.
