Burlington- Samuel “Sammy” Seaphard Smithey Jr, 82 passed away peacefully on Saturday August 17, 2024 at Blakey Hall, surrounded by his two favorite girls Stephanie and Tina. He was born December 29, 1941 in Alamance County to the late Samuel Seaphard Smithey Sr and Louise Rudd Smithey.
He retired from Lucent Technologies and spent his remaining years playing golf, watching his beloved Tar Heels, fishing with his friends and spending time with his mall crew. His grandchildren meant the world to him, and he spent as much time with family as he could. He was a member of Shallow Ford Christian Church, where he was a former member of the church choir, The Active Adult Sunday school class, and Men's Fellowship. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his loving daughters Stephanie Smithey Malphurs and husband Jason, Tina Smithey Turner and husband Richard “Ricky”; his grandchildren Noah Turner, Austin Turner, Alyson Malphurs and Samuel Malphurs.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife Faye Dodson Smithey.
The funeral service to celebrate the life of Samuel with be held at 2:00pm Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Rev. Steve Regan with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Saturday prior to the service in the church sanctuary and other times at his daughter Tina Turner’s residence in Burlington.
