Gibsonville - Samuel Edward "Sam" Hughes, 69, passed away Monday, October 16, 2017 after several years of failing health. He was born in Guilford County on March 4, 1948 to the late Daniel Richard "Dick" Hughes and Lois Corinna Clapp Hughes and was the husband to Donna Gay Pollard Hughes of 42 years who survives.
Sam retired after 33 years with Bellsouth. After his retirement he went to work as a cellular contractor for 14 years. He was a Mason of the Tabasco Lodge in Gibsonville and a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.
Survivors other than his wife, Donna include his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Keith Phillips, Christina and Terry Nesbit; grandchildren, Nick Phillips, Natalie Phillips, Sean Nesbit, Aerial Nesbit, Caitlin Nesbit and Steven Veiga; great grandchild, Maizy Seward and a brother, D.R. Hughes III and his wife, Beth. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teri H. Veiga; parents and a sister, Sarah Quattlebaum.
The memorial service will be held at 5:00pm Friday, October 20, 2017 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Sybil Parks. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the daughter, Christina's home.
