Samuel Best

Burlington-Samuel Edward "Sammy" Best, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home. Born May 6, 1950, he was a native of Alamance County and was the husband of 49 years to Deborah "Debbie" Way Best of the home.
Sammy served in the US Army and was a longtime member of Union Ridge Church where he helped with cooking at the annual Harvest Festivals and was a member of the Graham Chandler Sunday School Class. He enjoyed golf, shooting pool and going to his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Sammy was a proud "Papaw" of nine grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughters, Kelly Best Stout (Tony), Stephanie Best Hardy (Phil), Samantha Best Somers (Justin); grandchildren, Hailey Stout, Katelyn Clark, Hannah Stout, Natalie Clark, Tanner Stout, Caroline Somers, Laura Somers, Julia Somers, Kate Somers; sisters, Cindi Wood (Teresa), Debbie Womack (Ray), Tammy Ferettino and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Colene Westbrook Wood and Devette Mack "Jim" Wood and James Edward Best and sister, Jamie Best Baker.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00pm on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Union Ridge Church building fund.
