Nana Ruth hitched a ride with Billy Graham to the Gates of Heaven on February 21, 2018, to be reunited with our Lord and her beloved husband, Paul Wyrick. Ruth was born October 12, 1933 to the late H.D. Baker and Pearlie Bullins Baker Roberts in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Nana Ruth was a devoted, avid fan of the UNC Tarheels: "Go Heels!" Ruth was a dedicated employee of Sears Mail Order Plant in Greensboro for 39 years and it was there that she met her beloved Paul and married him on July 25, 1957. They were happily married for 55 years until Paul went to blaze the trail for their reunion that came to be on Wednesday. In her retirement years, Nana Ruth thoroughly enjoyed golfing, bowling, coin/stamp & doll collecting, gardening, walking and her poodles, along with organizing lunch gatherings with other retired Sears employees, and visiting and playing with and watching her grandchildren in their many sports endeavors. Ruth enjoyed travelling, especially to the beach. Ruth was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Gibsonville for more than 50 years, where she served in a number of ways including Sunday school teacher and the nursery.
Ruth was preceded by her parents, brothers Robert, Paul and Henry and her beloved husband, Paul Richard Wyrick. Nana Ruth is survived by her loving a devoted daughter, Kathy Lynne Wyrick Joyce (Joseph) of Greensboro, grandchildren: William Christopher Wrenn (Danielle) of Charlotte, Ashley Karoline Joyce, Joseph Keaton Joyce and Kathryn Kylie Joyce, all of Greensboro, and great granddaughter Eloise May Wrenn; and sister-in-law Edna Weisner of Gibsonville. Nana Ruth was an inspiration to her grandchildren to pursue vocations that would be of greatest aid and service to others.
Special thanks and gratitude are extended to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro along with the loving, caring staff at Whitestone - A Masonic and Eastern Star Community for their care for Nana Ruth and support for Kathy over the last months and years.
The Celebration of Remembrance for Nana Ruth will be conducted by Pastor Bill Zima from Friedens Lutheran Church in the chapel at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington on Saturday, February 24, at 2:00 in the afternoon. Nana's family will welcome remembrances of her following the service at the chapel. There will be a private interment at a later date.
