Ruth Williams Smith, 83, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. She was born in Alamance County and was the daughter of the late Yancy Clifton and Alice Readling Williams. She was married for 30 years to the late Thomas Argo Smith. She graduated from Elon College and was an Elementary School Teacher for over 30 years, teaching First Grade for 25 years. She was a church accompanist who played the piano and organ at several churches including First United Methodist Church of Elon where she was a member, Haw River Christian Church, Shiloh Presbyterian Church and West Burlington Methodist Church. She was talented, creative and could do almost anything she put her mind to. She truly loved her family and spending time with them, especially traveling with her husband Tom. Mrs. Smith also loved to cook and playing the piano for the men's group at church. She is survived by her stepsons, Thomas Steven "Moose" Smith and his wife Sue, Scott Ward "Scotty" Smith and his wife Darlene, all of Nashville, TN; step grandchildren, Geoff, Susannah, Isaac, Kristen and Scott and step great grandchildren, Molly, Macy, Charlie, Finn and Otis. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, Margie Stuckey, Eva Hardin, Faye Koch, Catherine Williams, Betty Caviness, Yancy Williams, Jr., James Williams and Donald Williams. The family would like to say a special "Thank You" to all the caregivers who took such good care of Mrs. Smith. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Keith Sexton with interment to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 prior the service at the funeral home.
