Ruth Whitlow

Ruth Shelton Whitlow, 90, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Alamance House. She was married to Jesse Noten Whitlow for seventy-one years and was born September 6, 1923 in Rockingham County, NC to the late Andrew Johnson Shelton, Sr. and Lula Virginia Almond Shelton. Ruth had retired from U.S. Rubber after several years of service. She was a member of The First Church of the Nazarene where she sang in the choir and helped with the senior citizens activities for many years. Ruth loved to cook and catered for many years. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and sewing, she was considered to be quite the seamstress. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband of the home, a daughter Linda Whitlow Caulder, a son Cecil N. Whitlow and his wife Linda all of Burlington, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Ryan Thomas Jeter, a sister Pearl Burgess, brothers; Andrew Johnson Shelton, Jr., William "Bill" Shelton, Franklin "Pete" Shelton, George W. Shelton and Walter Shelton. The funeral will be held 2:00 PM Monday at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 3-5 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and other times at the residence.
