Burlington-Ruth Harden Smith, 81 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late Jimmy Allen Smith.
Ruth along with her husband was the owner and operator of Smith Bait and Tackle. She was a member of the Burlington Assembly of God and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Collins of Burlington and Lisa Brooks of Elon; son, Steve Smith of Burlington; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Theda Jones and husband, Bill of Burlington, Brenda Watkins and husband, James of Reidsville and Sue Hornaday and husband, Jerry of Burlington; brother, John Harden and wife, Peggy of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, James Garland and Adie Sutton Harden; sisters, Peggy Straughan, June Bowman and Ellen Burchell.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bennie Smith and the burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 pm prior to the service and other times at the residence.
