Ruth Rains

Burlington-Ruth J. Rains, age 92 passed away Friday March 12, 2021. She was born March 9,1929 to the late Ira and Edith Kennedy Jones.

Ruth worked several years at Western Electric and later as a real estate broker in Tennessee, North Carolina and California. She was one of the first female contractors in the State of Tennessee. In earlier years, she was the youth choir director at Shallowford Church in Burlington. Ruth sang at area churches in Clinton-Oakridge Tn.,1975-1979 and was asked to be one of three back-up singers for Johnny Cash.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Stanton Mae Stubblefield Jr., Siblings, Larry “Johnny” Jones. Max Jones, Donald “Don” Jones and Jean Kerns. She is survived by her brother Tim Jones of Greensboro NC and sister Susan Hopkins of Morehead City, NC. Two sons, Steve (Lila) Stubblefield of Winchester, Tn., Alan Stubblefield of Burlington, NC., One granddaughter, Anna (Justin) Smith of Burlington, NC. Three step grandchildren, Lana Grant of Nashville, Tn., Laura Grant of Winchester, Tn., David Grant of Myrtle Beach, SC. four step great grandchildren, two step great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
