Burlington- Ruth Smith McCann, 91, went home of be with the Lord on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the Compass Heathcare and Rehab Hawfields. She was a native of Caswell County and the wife of 64 years to the late W. J. “Junior” McCann, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Elijah Floyd and Eva Moore Smith.
Ruth was a homemaker and a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church. Ruth and her husband, Junior enjoyed gardening and sharing vegetables with their friends and neighbors. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy and husband, Johnny Hopkins of Burlington and her son, Jimmy McCann and wife, Rhonda of Mebane; grandchildren, Jared McCann and wife, Katie and Kirby Sullivan and husband, Louis; great grandchildren, Cole Sullivan, Jamie McCann, Macie McCann, Cameron Sullivan and Walker Sullivan; brother, Howard Smith of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill, Fred, Frank and Jack Smith; her sister, Mary S. Surber.
The McCann family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Compass Healthcare and Rehab Hawfields for their kind and compassionate care for Ruth during her illness.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Clarence Toney and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30-12:45pm and other times at the home of her son, Jimmy McCann in Mebane.
