Ruth Ingle

Mrs. Ruth Lamar Ingle, after celebrating her 100th birthday, graduated from her Doolin Street home to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, January 9, 2016. She suffered a stroke at age 98; however she was blessed to celebrate her 100th birthday with over 225 relatives and friends prior to slipping into a coma 10 days later. Born on December 21, 1915 to the late Rev. William and Rossie Lamar in Easley, South Carolina where she spent her early childhood years before going to The Methodist Childrens Home in High Point, North Carolina with her two brothers, Knox and Kenneth. Upon leaving the Childrens Home, she resided a couple of years in Miami, Florida with her mother before coming back to North Carolina. She lived with her brother Knox and Helen Lamar until graduating from E.M. Holt. Knox introduced her to his best friend, Fred D. Ingle. They were married March 21, 1938 at the Methodist Childrens Home by Rev. (Daddy) Dixon. They shared almost 69 years of marriage before he passed away in March, 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Calhoun (Fred, deceased) and son, Ronnie J. Ingle of Haw River. Grandchildren; Melinda Fargis, Colan Ingle (Deborah), Kevin Colvard (Holly) all of Burlington, Kim Ingle (Angela) of Haw River, David Chrisco (Christy) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Robin Buffington (Len) of Jacksonville, Florida. Great Grandchildren; Joshua, Stephen (Katie), Jake, Caleb, Hannah and Hailey Ingle, Trey Fargis, Sophie Chrisco, Chase Buffington, Adain, Nina and Dallas Colvard. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six Lamar brothers, Kenneth, Knox, Bill, Temple, Paul and twin brother, Glenn. She always had a special love for children and teens; possibly because of the love and training she received as a child at the Childrens Home. She taught Juniors in Sunday School for years using the new method of teaching with flannel-graph. The outings to the park with she and Mr. Fred provided much enjoyment with everyone wanting to hurry to be a Junior. She also played the piano at Friendship Methodist Church for the Sunday night services with her brother Knox leading the singing. When Youth For Christ began its ministry of youth evangelism in Alamance County, Ruth and Fred lent their support financially as well as attending services every Saturday night in various local churches with a car load of teens. Out of this group came the pastor of Baptist Temple, Donald R. Carter, whom they supported while in Piedmont Bible College. The Ingle farm was a constant gathering place for the young people where they enjoyed Mr. Freds popcorn and Pepsi, along with numerous other church activities. A devoted Christian, she exemplified her love for God and others on a daily basis. She was an excellent seamstress, making wedding gowns and special creations for many. She was a charter member of Baptist Temple of Alamance County where she and Mr. Fred donated the land . They dedicated their lives to Baptist Temple and its ministries. She was a prayer warrior, lover of Gods Word and never shy about telling others about her Jesus and His great love. Ingle began keeping children in their home, which grew quickly to the founding and operating of Ingle Hill Day Care. A three star facility serving families of Alamance County for over 50 years. The Center on Tucker Street Extension provided a home away from home. She surrounded herself with the Lords leadership and ability to hire a loving staff whose first focus was to share her love for children. The center and staffs longevity was due to Ingles love for people that led to a continuous waiting list. One of the day-care children said, I stayed in a home with one big family. Another said, You have touched so many lives in such a positive way. Ingle always said: All people want are for you to love their children. Mr. Fred was always there in a supporting role. INGLE didnt retire from this phase of her lifes ministry until just before her 92nd birthday. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 8 at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home. The family would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life and Service to glorify God and honor His faithful servant on Tuesday, January 12th, 1 pm at Baptist Temple, 2224 Anthony Road, Burlington, NC We are so thankful for Ingles nieces and nephews love and support. We are grateful to the Hospice Health Care Team, nurses, CNAs, and private sitters for their loving care and compassion which enabled the family to keep her at home for the past 18 months.
