Mrs. Ruth Isley Hughes, 88, of 330 Burke St., died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Moses Cone Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Everette Joel Isley and the late Lessie Foster Isley and was married to the late Wlikes Thomas Hughes, Sr., who died in 2001. She was retired from Carolina Biological Supply Company and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Gibsonville. Mrs. Hughes is survived by a daughter, Jane Blythe and her husband, Michael, of Burlington; a son Wilkes T. Hughes, Jr. and his wife, Edwina, of Burlington; four grandchildren, Scott Trish Hughes, Thomas Hughes, Jeffrey Blythe and Jennifer Blythe; two great grandchildren, Lindsey Curtis and Andrew Curtis; two sisters, Opal Isley of Burlington and Gail Thomas of Gibsonville; and four brothers, Jack Isley, Hobert Isley and Bill Isley, all of Gibsonville, and Horace Isley of Liberty. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a granddaughter, Paige Phillips; and a sister, Dorothy Cuthbertson. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Gibsonville by the Rev. Brian Ayers and the Rev. Hobert Isley. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home.
