Ruth Hawkins

Burlington - Ruth Mae Cates Hawkins, 85, went home to be with the Lord August 19, 2016 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Alamance County April 4, 1931 to the late Luther and Minnie Cates and was the wife of Ernest Marvin Hawkins, Sr. who preceded her in death.

Ruth worked at Anadeen Hosiery for many years before retiring and was a member of Peoples Memorial Christian Church. She enjoyed travel and adventure. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, friends and her granddogs. Ruth was loved by all who knew her and made everyone feel like family.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy McCullock and husband Keith of Cary; son, Ernest Hawkins, Jr. and wife Judy of N. Myrtle Beach; like a daughter, Sandra Durham and husband Eric of Burlington; granddaughters, Ashlee McCullock of New York, NY, Madison McCullock of Cary, Nicole Lunsford of Burlington, Tonya Hamren and husband Judd of Knightdale; great granddaughter, Jessica Hamren; brothers, Lonnie Russell, Harold Russell, Jimmy Cates and her special granddogs, Sophie McCullock and Elton John Hawkins III. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00pm on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Grinnell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
