Graham – Ruth Nanny Lee Horton Boone, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Peak Resources after several years of failing health. She was born in Wythe County, VA on April 5, 1926 to the late Rev. Charles Alfred and Dinnah Hall Horton and was the wife of the late Avery Moore “Hoss” Boone.
Ruth worked at Holt Hosiery for many years and was a longtime, active member of Wicker Street Baptist Church. She was Poppy Queen of Pulaski County in 1944, a member of Burlington Women of the Moose and served as Senior Regent. She also volunteered for the Veteran’s Hospital in Durham. Ruth had a love for children and over 100 were blessed to have her as their foster mother.
Survivors include her daughters, Sonya Wrenn (Louis), Angelia Payne (Albert), Karen Ouellette, Sharon Sumner (Alton); eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; son, Avery Mark Boone; brothers, Obadiah “Buster”, Woodson and Paul Horton; sisters, Hattie Haymore, Hallie Weddle and a grandson, Christopher Mark Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church (founded by her grandfather), Attn: Haiti Medical Fund, 46 Hunters Ridge Rd., Dugspur, VA 24325.
A private service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory by Rev. Ricky Lewis and she will be buried at Alamance Memorial Park. She will be available for viewing from 9am-4pm on Sunday. You may view the service after 3:00pm Monday on the funeral home website.
