Ruth Frances Matherly Aydt, 89, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord and sing in the heavenly choir on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born in Campbell County, VA to the late Spencer Matherly and the late Edna McGhee Matherly Dudleck. Ruth was married for 66 years to Paul Wayne Aydt, who survives. She was a former employee of Burlington Industries and Kayser-Roth. Ruth was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, the Harper Burke Sunday school class and the church choir. She sang since she was 16 years old in trios, quartets, and the church choir. Mrs. Aydt was an avid cake baker for her family and friends. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Gayle Jule Terrell and Cindy J.W. King, Jr., all of Burlington; grandchildren, Carren Ron Thomas, Lynn William Murray, Jon Robin Terrell, Ryan King and Nick King; great grandchildren, Christopher Eleni Murray, Brooke Porterfield, Brian Porterfield, Kayla Terrell and Kylie Terrell; sisters, Grace Shepherd of Lighthouse Point, FL and Katie Lane of Burlington; brother, Clarence Matherly of Burlington and cousin, Geraldine Rivenbark of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Mary May and brothers, James and Spencer Matherly and George and Oscar Dudleck. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Redding with interment to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 Thursday prior to the service and other times at the daughter's home, Gayle Terrell, 640 Hiawatha Place, Burlington. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at White Oak Manor and Hospice, especially Charles Harrelson, Ginger Furmage and Angie Turner, for taking such good care of Mrs. Aydt.
