Ruth Lorene Slay Anderson of Twin Lakes Center in Burlington, passed away on Sunday, August 9th, 2015 after a sudden illness. Ruth was born on April 26, 1915 in Crystal Springs, Mississippi to the late George Elmo and Margaret Cooper Slay and was married for over 65 years to the late Louis B. "Andy" Anderson, who passed away in 2005. Ruth's family also included three daughters, Mary Beth Park (Robert) who preceded her in death; Carol A. Styles and her husband, Bert, of Arnold, MD; and Sue C. Harvin and her husband, Rev. David, of Chapel Hill, NC. Mrs. Anderson is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, many of whom came from all parts of the country to help her celebrate her 100th birthday on April 26, 2015 at the Twin Lakes Center in Burlington. She also had five brothers and five sisters all of whom preceded her in death. Mrs. Anderson was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful roses, irises and day lilies. Ruth and Andy were great travelers, crossing the US many times in their motor home with the "Good Sam's" RV club. Their travels also extended across the ocean, visiting many countries throughout Europe, and the Middle East. Their favorite trip began on a freighter through the Panama Canal, across the Pacific Ocean to Hong Kong, then flying west with multiple stops to circumnavigate the globe. The family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date.
