DEE MURRAY Ruby Carl William "Dee" Murray, age 89, of Osceola-Ossipee Rd., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Hospice Home. He was anxious to join his wife of 68 years, Irene who died March 10, 2014 A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of the late Irene Apple Murray and son of the late William Steiner Presley Murray and Lessie McIntyre Murray. He was a member of Apple's Chapel Christian Church and the Men's Chorus. Dee and his brother Howard operated Murray Brothers' Store on Osceola-Ossipee Rd. since 1948, closing it's doors for the final time in July of 2013. During these years he serviced four generations of family's cars. Open 6 days a week, you could set your clock by the "regulars" coming by for a bottle of Coke, peanuts and nabs. The stories that were told!!! Murray Bros. was the center of the Busick community for 65 years. He was known as the "chewing gum man". He gave gum to every child he met. A quiet, humble man, He knew and loved everybody and everybody loved him. First and foremost, he loved the Lord and served Him faithfully all his life. He enjoyed raising a garden and in turn giving away anything he grew. He supplied the neighborhood with his fresh vegetables. Dee is survived by his sons, Dean Murray and wife Devonah and Rick Murray and wife Joni all of Gibsonville; grandchildren, Dylan Murray and Danielle Sockwell and husband John Paul; great grandchildren, Case and Cailynn Sockwell; sister Lillie Mabe of Walterboro, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; siblings James Weldon Murray, Ida Murray, Henry Murray, Tommy Murray, Alvis Murray, Alice Ashley, Howard Murray and Ruth Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Apple's Chapel Christian Church by Rev. C. Alan Myers, III, Rev. Mike Mitchiner and Rev. David Johnson. Interment will follow in Apple's Chapel Cemetery. Mr. Murray will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Friday and at the home at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell or Apple's Chapel Christian Church Cemetery Fund. The family would like to thank Hospice of Alamance for the loving care over the last few days of Mr. Murray's life.
