Mrs. Ruby Long Johnson, age 89, formerly of Burlington, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2021 at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health.
Born in Caswell County, she was the daughter of the late Rubin Long and the late Mamie Merritt Long and was married for over 40 years to Harold Lester Johnson who passed in 2014. She retired from Burlington Industries after many years of service, was a longtime member of Graham Full Gospel Tabernacle. Mrs. Johnson helped with the campaign to build the John Robert Kernodle Senior Center and volunteered to help with events and served as a receptionist, along with helping with other duties. One of the original Alamance Senior Games cheerleaders. Along with her late beloved husband, Harold, she never hesitated to bring love and laughter through entertaining with music at the senior center and other venues.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Donie B. Kepley; four grandchildren, Robbie Mayton, Arnold Baldwin, Jr., Allen Wayne Baldwin and Rebecca Howington; nine great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Arnold Lee Baldwin; a sister, Betty Willis; and three brothers, Hulin Long, Junior Allen Long and Robert Long.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kevin Barbour. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
