Ruby Alford

Princess Ruby went home to be with her King on Saturday, January 5, 2008. Mrs. Alford was 71 years of age and lived at 1071 Mountainside Lane. and died at the Hospice Home after several months of failing health. A native of Edgecomb County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Ashley Alford and the late Willie Dunn Alford. She was of the Christian faith and was an avid encourager with her many homemade notes to all her family and friends. Mrs. Alford is survived by a daughter, Affie Kern Ray and her husband, Allen, of Burlington; three sons, Richard Maurice Kern, Jr. and his wife, Martynka, of New York, NY, Swain Kern and his wife, Rhonda, of Burlington and John Matthew Kern and his wife, Jenny, of Lookout Mountain, GA; nine grandchildren, Sala Ray Pradhan, Karise Ray, Seth Ray, Abigail Ray, Johanna Kern, Josiah Kern, Junanne Kern, Jenae Kern and Fletcher Kern; a sister, Gwen Alford of Littleton and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Alford of Littleton. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Sam Alford and Billy Alford. A memorial service will be conducted at 9:30 AM Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Mr. Jack Newman and Mr. John P. Kellogg. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of the daughter, Affie Ray, 1181 Mountainside Lane.
