Roy "Shag Daddy" Childress

Burlington – Roy “RB” “Shag Daddy” Benjamin Childress, 76 passed away at his home on Thursday, September 24, 2020. He was born on April 14, 1944 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Roy Eskar and Ella Christina Brooks Childress. He was the husband of 42 years to Peggy May Greeson Childress who survives.

Roy retired from Burlington Industries. He was a US Army veteran serving 2 tours in Vietnam with an Artillery Unit.  He was a member of SOS “Society of Stranders” and The Association of Beach and Shag Club DJs. Roy’s passion was being a DJ and playing beach and shag music. He was beloved by many in the Shag Community.  Roy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy G. Childress of the home; daughters, JoAnn Marie Agnew and husband, Charlie of Snow Camp, Wendy Ann Flowers and husband, J.R. of Asheboro and Penny Childress Ward and husband, Bill of Elon; son, Michael Wayne Childress and wife, Karla of Hillsborough; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
