Mr. Ross Devere Harwood, passed away gently and peacefully April 24, 2019, at his home in Gibsonville, North Carolina with members of his immediate family at his bedside.
He was born in Howell, Livingston County, Michigan and would have turned 88 later this summer. He attended the Howell (MI) Public Schools before entering the US military and enjoyed an active military career before retiring in 1971. He then began a second career working for many years for Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies. Both careers took him to US military installations, missile defense systems installations among other duties at various locations in Germany, Michigan, Texas, Kwajalein Marshall Islands, New Mexico, California, North Dakota, Iran, Saudi Arabia and North Carolina.
Within his circle of friends and family Ross was well known for his kindness and generosity. He loved music, especially classical. He had a striking trained baritone singing voice.
Mr. Harwood is survived by his wife of 34 years, Patricia M. Harwood; children, Mark (Traci) Pearce, Melissa (Robert) Walsh, Amy (James) Hess, Harry (Berna) Harwood and Randy (Stacie) Harwood; along with numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry George and Gladys Adelaide Knudson-Harwood of Howell, Michigan; along with siblings Harry George Harwood Jr, Ardith Elaine Harwood-Salisbury and Lita Joy Harwood-Garwood.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 29, 2019 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by his son, Pastor Randy Harwood. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
