Ronald Smith, Sr.

Burlington-Ronald "Ronnie" David Smith, Sr. age 76 went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 14, 2015. He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 57 years to Betty Ballard Smith who survives. Ronnie retired from General Electric after 17 years. He was a member of Pilgrim Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and chairman of the deacon board. Ronnie enjoyed wood working, watching races at Ace Speedway and riding his motorcycle. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ballard Smith of the home; sons, David Smith and wife, Johanna of Burlington, John Smith and wife, Devin of Burlington, Brent Smith and wife, Missy of Graham; grandchildren, Justin Smith, Spencer Smith, Morgan Smith, Laura Aaron Evans, Alex Smith, Mallory Smith, Brianna Smith and Makayla Smith; great granddaughter, Lily Evans; sister, Faye Dabbs of Graham and a brother, Gary Smith and wife, Joyce of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Glenn Smith and Eliza Lenora Susan Rudd Smith. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mike Jones and the burial will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
