Ronald Keith “Ronnie” “Boom Boom” Bowens, 65, he was carried home in the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on August 12, 1958 in Person County, NC to the late Eugene Bowens, Jr. and Patty Elizabeth Conner Bowens, and was the husband of 37 years to Judy Lynn Foster Bowens of the home.
Ronnie formerly worked for Chapel Hill Carrboro City School System as a plumber for 16 years. He was a lifelong devoted member of Friendly Lane Baptist Church where he was a Trustee. His faith in Jesus Christ was obvious to all. His sweet spirit, kindness and positive attitude will never be forgotten by those fortunate enough to have known him. If he knew of someone in need or down on their luck, he always tried to help them out. Ronnie was an avid UNC Tarheel fan, New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings fan. In his younger days he rode his horse in rodeos and won numerous ribbons. He enjoyed participating in Mud Slings, hunting, fishing, bowling, playing men’s, co-ed and church softball leagues #24, going on cruises and trips to the beach.
Ronnie enjoyed being outdoors, farming, working with his cows and was the past president of Tri-County Sportsman Club for 25 years. Most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Ronnie was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, who will be dearly missed. We know that Ronnie has reached a place of everlasting peace alongside Jesus Christ. While we grieve his passing, with our grief comes the lightness of hope. Psalm 30:5 "Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."
Survivors other than his wife, Judy Bowens include a daughter, Jaimie Shoemaker Davis and husband Joel; grandchildren, Jaelynn Shoemaker, Samantha Davis, Kennedy Davis and Drake Davis; his siblings, Linda Faucette and Rickey Bowens and wife Louise; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Vickie Whitt and husband Jimmy, Cheryl Greeson and husband John, and Garry Foster and wife Betty Lou; and several nieces and nephews. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Garnett “Pat” Patton and Emma Faye Thompson Patton; and brothers-in-law, Larry Foster and Jay Faucette.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hospice staff and nurses for all their loving care and compassion that was shown to Ronnie during his illness.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Craig Cox with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 1:45pm Tuesday prior to the service and other times at the residence.
