Ronald Austin

Mr. Ronald Wright Austin, age 79, of 514 Vine St., passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at his home after several months of failing health. Born in Franklin, Vermont, he was the son of the late Clark Elvin Austin and the late Mae Valentine Jones Austin and was married for over 60 years to Mrs. Frances Toler Austin, who survives. He retired from AT&T in 1985 after 33 years of service and was a member of Baptist Temple in Reidsville, NC. He was a US Army veteran and served in the Korean War. Ronald was a very avid hunter and fisherman, was a lifetime member of North Carolina Sportmen, the National Rifle Association and the American Legion. Mr. Austin is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Lorie Austin Hamby of Burlington; a son, Marshall Horton Austin of Burlington; three grandchildren, Harley Austin Hamby, Jennifer Michelle Austin and Taylor Ann Austin; and a great granddaughter, Marissa Leigh Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Curtis Dale Austin; and a brother, Elvin Clark Austin. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Neil Salter. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 Tuesday evening and other times at the home.
