Roger Lee Moorehead, 87, formerly of N. Church Street, Burlington, NC, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Mr. Moorehead was born on January 30, 1927 in Defiance, Ohio to the late Raymond Earl and Mable Roehig Moorehead. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served in the South Pacific during WWII. He retired from Western-Southern Life Insurance Co. after 28 years. He served as District Sales Manager of Western-Southern in Kinston from 1966 to 1981 and in Burlington from 1981 until his retirement. His professional achievements include, Designation of Chartered Life Underwriters and Charter Financial Consulant Conference by the American College of Financial Services of Bryn Mawr, PA, in 1977 and 1984 respectfully. He was a past member of the National Assoc. of Life Underwriters and the American Society of Chartered Life Underwriters. Roger was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the Pastor Parrish Relations Committee and as a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Amran Temple, as well as an associate member of the Marine Corps League LCpl Alan D. Lam Detachment. Roger derived great pleasure spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Joyce Wyrebaugh Moorehead who survives; sons, Randy Moorehead and wife Cheryl of Raleigh and Reggie Moorehead and wife Susan of Haw River; brothers, Jim Moorehead of Aiken, SC and Richard Moorehead of Leo, IN; brother-in-law, John Grimes; grandchildren, Mitch Moorehead of Haw River, Mike Moorehead of San Diego, CA, Mandra Wirick and husband Dr Matthew Wirick of Raleigh and Matthew Moorehead and wife Erin of Burlington; 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Phyllis Grimes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Davis Street United Methodist Church by Rev. Jimmy Weaver and Rev. Michael Hobbs. Mr. Moorehead will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church for services. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 6-8pm Monday and at Apt. 306 Whittenburg Building at Twin Lakes. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Davis St. United Methodist Church; 606 E. Davis St. Burlington, NC 27215.
