Mr. Robert Herman Thieme, Sr., age 91, of 3903 Calvin Ct., died Friday July 17, 2009 at his home after several years of declining health. Born on July 4, 1918 in Paterson, NJ, he was the son of the late Bruno Herman Thieme and the late Anna Tabbert Thieme and was married for over 67 years to Mrs. Lillian Ellerbrook Thieme, who survives. Robert graduated from Central High School in Paterson, NJ in 1936 and then attended Paterson State Teachers College and Upsala College in East Orange, NJ. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII and served as a radio operator in France and later retired from AT & T with over 26 years of service. After retirement he was a resident of Seven Lakes, NC and moved to Twin Lakes Community in 1997 where he active in the Twin Lakes Men's Club where he served as a former chairman and guest speaker. Mr. Thieme is survived by his wife of the home, a daughter, Carol Daugherty and her husband, Jonas, of Rougemont, NC; a son, Robert H. Thieme, Jr. and his wife, Catharine, of Morgantown, WV; three grandchildren, Jason terry, Heather Daugherty and Abby Daugherty; three great grandchildren, Jackson Terry, Kailyn Terry and Grace Terry; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Foley Chapel in the Coble Health Care Building at Twin Lakes by Pastor Craven Ford. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC 27407-2145.
