Robert S. Surber Sr., 89, died peacefully, Monday, November 26th, at Sunnybrook Healthcare in Raleigh, after years of declining health, and 1 week of critical illness. He was born to James Abraham Surber and Alice Oaknelia Peters of Surber, VA on March 2, 1923 and was a brother of Eddie, Alfred, Bill, Spencer, Dennis, Noel and Helen Denny; all of who proceeded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by his first wife, Vara McGee, and his second wife Nettie Brady, as well as, his step-daughter Carolyn Bare Martin. He is survived by his son Robert Surber Jr., of Raleigh, and a step-son Michael Floyd Bare, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws. After years of service to his country in the Air Wing of the US Navy, Bob started his life-long civilian career with the Western Electric Company in Burlington, which he chose to make his home. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and the caregivers that he had come to know over the years. There will be graveside service 1:00 PM Wednesday at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 11:00 12:30 PM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Sunnybrook Healthcare in Raleigh where he spent the last year's of his life being cared for by kind and caring professionals who had come to know and love him like family; or to Twin Lakes Assisted Living in Burlington, where he was cared for prior to living at Sunnybrook.
