Robert Shields

Robert Shields went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, June 18th following a long illness. He was born in Bennett, NC to the late Henry Lynn Shields and Wreatha Muse Shields on October 9, 1947. Robert graduated from beauty school in 1965. Along with a successful career as a cosmetologist, Robert taught his craft for 22 years. Robert taught at Rockingham Community College, teaching hundreds of students the art of cosmetology. Robert's artistic talents were also showcased through his singing. Robert was one of the founding members of The Christianairs, a popular gospel group. Robert sang in many different groups, singing various genres of music in a wide variety of venues. His beautiful voice graced many audiences throughout the years. Robert was married to the late Linda Carol Brown of Bennett, NC on February 8th 1969. Carol passed away in 2001 following a brave battle with cancer. Robert is survived by his sons, Brian Keith Shields and wife Susan of Burlington and Jeffrey Lynn Shields and partner Chad Shoaf of Mooresville, NC. He is also survived by his three perfect grandchildren, Mason 19 and Hannah 17 of Burlington and Will 2 of Mooresville. He is also survived by two sisters, Ailene Shields of Burlington and Geneva Hicks of Staley. Along with being the world's greatest dad, Robert enjoyed traveling and competing in and winning hair master design and styling competitions across the state. Robert was highly respected in the cosmetology community. Robert also attended North Graham Baptist Church, where he shared his musical gifts and was a US Army Veteran. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 21, 2013 at North Graham Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Hayes with burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home.
