Robert "Buggs" Oylen Parrott, Jr., 70, passed away Monday, September 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Buggs was born on July 31, 1948 in Alamance County to the late Robert Oylen Parrott, Sr. and Addie Sue Barker Parrott and was a loving and dedicated husband to the love of his life, Merry Lou Aldridge Parrott of 49 years, who survives.
Buggs retired after 40 years with Burlington Industries, Williamsburg Plant. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Caswell Ward; former member of the Board of Directors of Piedmont Community College; founding member of the Caswell County United Way; the former coordinator of the Adult Literacy Program at Burlington Industries. He was the founding publisher of Alamance Woman magazine. Buggs was a loyal and dedicated servant to his family and his community. He enjoyed helping others; a muscle car enthusiast, an avid golfer and loved spending time at the beach with family and friends.
Survivors other than his wife include his daughters, Lisa Parrott, Angela "Angel" Parrott, Kristin Newnam and husband, Chris; a son, Robert Oylen Parrott III and wife, Jessica; grandchildren, Hayleigh Woods, Jordyn Woods, Matthew Woods, Will Newnam, Luke Newnam and Cole Parrott; his best friend and like a brother, Glenn Hall and wife, Debbie; canine companions, Reesie and Millie; six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Addie Renee Parrott, his parents and two brothers-in-law.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Caswell Ward by Bishop Dwayne Bryant, with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7pm Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
The family would like to express their gratitude for all the support and loving care that was shown to Buggs from their church family, the staff at Hospice, the Cancer Center, and the staff in the Liver and Cardiology departments at Duke. All of your compassion meant so much to our family during Buggs lengthy illness.
