Robert Alexander Lentz, 87, of 3908 Knox Ct. passed away Thursday December 15, 2011 at Twin Lakes Nursing Center. He was married to Betty Mills Lentz for sixty-five years and was born April 2, 1924 in Rowan County to the late Clyde Franklin and Mabel Freeze Lentz. Robert served in the US Army during WW II, and retired from Bell Labs, Western Electric and A.T. & T after many years of service. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church and served as the Scout Master from 1952 to 1965 and continued to stay very active with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of the home, a daughter Sue Lentz Dowd and her husband M.W. Dowd, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, a son Dr. R. Preston Lentz and his wife Marlene of Greensboro, grandchildren, Kirk Dowd and his wife Kymberly, M.W. Dowd III and his wife Tina, Cathryn Elizabeth Hewett and her husband Dr. Allan Hewett, Jennifer Marie Szdlek and her husband Kevin, Susan Paige Morse and her husband Matt, Elizabeth Cathleen Ameen, a sister Rebecca Curlee of GA and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Ann Lentz Ameen and a sister Rachel Mesimore. The celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday in the Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd.
