Burlington-Robert "Bob" Valentine Fernandez, age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jeanne Sinclair Fernandez who survives. Bob was a retired US Army Lt. Col. artillery officer serving two tours in Vietnam and receiving a bronze star for valor in combat. He later retired after 20 years with the Drug Enforcement Agency serving lastly as Chief of Special Intelligence. He followed his DEA career serving as Emergency Management Support for Research Planning Inc. Bob was an active member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for several years. He graduated from NYU in 1960 with a BS in Metrological science and received his Masters Degree in Christian Ministry from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies. He was a Boy Scout leader for 25 years sharing Christian values with many young men. Bob was a proud member of the Pershing Rifles, a military fraternity providing scholarships and support to ROTC students for 55 years. Bob was passionate about telling others about his Lord and Savior. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and brother. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne S. Fernandez of the home; daughter, Annemarie Maduro Fernandez of Lusby, Maryland and a son, Peter Emmanuel Maduro Fernandez of Mechanicsville, Maryland; step daughter, Ellen Nash and husband, Tres of Mebane; step grandchildren, Lindsey, Parker and Carson Nash all of Mebane; sister, Margaret Hart and husband, Charles of St. Louis, Missouri and a special niece, Dr. Yvonne Lowne of Stoney Creek, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marianne Grevers Fernandez and parents, Manuel D. Fernandez and May Goemaat Fernandez Crothers. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 11:00 am at Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church by Rev. Don Pegg. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. A military service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with full honors by the US Army honor guard. Memorials may be made to Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church, 1106 E.
