Burlington- Robert G. “Bob” VanSlyke, 83, formerly of Jefferson, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2023. He was the son of the late Cyril Roscoe and Eleanor E. Vanek VanSlyke. He was the husband of 65 years to Carol Zinn VanSlyke who survives.
Bob retired from Rockwell Industries. He worked in housing construction for many years with his dad. Bob attended First Baptist Church of Alamance. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making things to sell and give as gifts. Bob was a fan of Nascar and NFL football. He restored a ‘63 Chevy Impala and spent many happy hours cruising and going to car shows. Bob enjoyed working in his yard with his Kubota tractor and teaching his grandkids how to operate it. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Bob is survived by his wife of the home; Carol VanSlyke; his son David J. VanSlyke and wife, Shirley of Salisbury, NC; his daughters, Diane VanSlyke and husband, George McPheeters of Hawaii and Darlene VanSlyke and husband, Myron Prevatte of Burlington; grandchildren, Heather (Brandon) Marley, Samuel (Morgan) VanSlyke, Aaron (Tricia) VanSlyke, Preston Prevatte and Mackenzi Prevatte; great grandchildren, Luke Marley, Andrew Marley, James VanSlyke, Annalie VanSlyke and Elijah VanSlyke; brother, Gary VanSlyke and wife, Elida of Mesa, Arizona and a sister, Janis Arendt formerly of Jefferson, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews and his canine companion, "Mocha". He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Shirley Hall and June Maynard and an infant brother.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Justin Brown. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 – 1:45 PM Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
