Robert "Bob" William Dyer

Robert “Bob” William Dyer, 96, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 23rd at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Rockingham County to the late Thomas Frank Dyer and Belva Powell Dyer and was married for over 73 years to Betty Barker Dyer, who passed away in 2022.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Teresa Lynne Dyer of Burlington, and Lori Dyer and husband John Heise of Haw River; son, Robert Alan Dyer and wife Theresa of Mebane; grandchildren, Susan Mullis and husband Greg, Stephanie Allen and husband Brian, April Stainback and husband Grant, Jason Cates, Kevin Maness, and Robert (Bobby) Durham; and great grandchildren, Nathan, Emmeline and Daxton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Barker Dyer; parents, Thomas and Belva Dyer; granddaughter, Angela Cates; sisters, Stella Greer, Ruth Griffith, Lillian Meredith, and Gaye Fiske; and a brother, Frank Dyer.

Bob attended Elon College until he was drafted into the U. S. Army during World War II, serving as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. After he was discharged, he completed his studies at Wake Forest, with a degree in chemical engineering. With his wife by his side, he owned, operated and developed numerous businesses, including a meat locker plant, long term care facilities, and residential and commercial properties.

He was a longtime member of The Lamb's Chapel and current member of Grace Chapel in Burlington. He loved his church family and served as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon for many years. Up until shortly before his death, he remained committed to the Spiritual Growth Sunday School class and the Way Makers small group hosted at his home.

He lived his life according to Mark 12:30-31, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these." He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. His strength, kindness, sense of humor and wisdom will be forever cherished and missed by those who knew him.

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 30, 2024 in the Chapel at Lowe Funeral Home by Pastor Brian Biggers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Living Free Ministries or the charity of your choice.
