Robert "Cary" Thomas Black, 86, passed away Sunday at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1930 in Person County to the late Andrew Thomas and Bessie Long Black and was married for over fifty years to the late Mary Woody Black. Cary had served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of Staley Memorial Baptist Church. He loved bird hunting, fishing and all sports in general. He was a dedicated Tar Heel fan. He always had a smile on his face and was glad to see you. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughters, Shelia Capps, Tammy (Chuck) James; grandchildren, Brandi (Derek) Simmons, Chad (Camie) James; great grandchildren, Jordan Miller, Blake Simmons, Ryleigh James and a brother Elmer Black. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother Tony Black.
The graveside service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at Alamance Memorial Park by Rev. Bennie Smith. The family will receive friends following the service at Shelia's home.
