Richard Earl Terrell, 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on February 19, 1943 in Alamance County to the late Earl Elen Terrell and Thelma Mae Long Terrell and was the husband of 58 years to Jacqueline “Jackie” Anne Brown Terrell who survives.
Richard started working at the age of 13 with his uncle, Lum Page at his grocery store. After high school he started working for Byrd’s Food Store as a meat cutter then to the president of the company. Richard worked for Byrd’s for 37 years. In 1991 Richard was honored with “Grocer of the Year” and in 1997 was the President of the NC Food Dealers. He was also the owner/operator of Alamance Salvage for 28 years; owner/operator of Alamance Auto and Motorhome Sales. Richard was currently the co-owner/operator of REA in Graham. He was a member of Faith Christian Church; enjoyed working from a young age, and enjoyed collecting old cars.
Survivors other than his wife, Jackie include a daughter, Wendy Terrell Swank and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Elin Richard Swank, Emerson Taylor Swank and Ava Catherine Swank; brother-in-law, David Brown and wife, Tammy; sisters-in-law, Dee Gray, Gayle Fogleman and husband Don, Sue Fowler and husband Winston and Kaye Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard Brent Terrell and brothers-in-law, Sonny Gray and Bill Adams.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens with the burial to follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The viewing hours will be from 8:00am until 1:45pm Sunday prior to the service. The family will be at the residence.
